Downhill Update

26/06/2009

As people may be aware or not, myself and russell have been working with DAFF over the last six months to "legitimise" the DH Scene both races and the social side of riding in the IOM. We had a meeting last week and have made good progress and feel the time has arrived to put people in the picture.

Brookdale Update

To Be Confirmed

As some of you may know, work has begun on an access bridge at the bottom of Brookdale. This COULD mean we are able to race there for Round 5 of the 2009 season. However, this is not defenite and does not give permission for any building work to the trails, so please do not jepardise the event for everyone else by doing so.

Round 3 - Senior National

Tholt-Y-Will 14/06/2009

After 2 years of heartache,Tom Skillicorn finally won the Manx National Downhill title on sunday at Tholt y Will plantation. Crashes in 2007 & 2008 robbed him of his chance to be crowned the Manx National Champion, but all that was forgotten with a clinical display of downhill riding at its very best.

Alpine Bikes Winter Series - Round 1

Innerleithen 01/02/2009

As you'll know by now,a few of us went away last weekend to do round 1 of the Alpine Bikes Winter Series held at Innerleithen. We arrived friday evening ,headed straight to the track to have a look, walk it see what awaited us. But to be honest it was fairly dark by that time so we didn't really get much of a look to check out lines etc... so we headed to the B&B for tea & a few beers!.

Manx Downhill National

Tholt-Y-Will 26/10/2008

As your all aware the national was held yesterday at the new track in tholt y will plantation. the wet weather had ensured that the track was even more difficult technical than ever to negotiate. more rocks roots were being exposed after every run, ruts would appear that weren't previously there with a lot of the track being off-camber catch nets at the ready,it was deffinetely the most challenging track of the year! 11 riders braved the conditions when the tractor eventually arrived,a couple of practice runs were put in before the business began. initially there was going to be 2 timed runs. 1 for round 6 1 for the national, but with the time getting on it was decided to just have 1 run winner takes all...

Tholt-Y-Will track update

On Sunday 7th September Tholt-Y-Will plantation plays host to the biggest Downhill race of the year for the club. After some successfull meetings with the DAFF,the club has received permission to build a brand new track for the event. Two weeks in with another week or so of intense building and the organisers hope the end result will be possibly the best downhill track seen on the island! As Tholt-Y-Will is one of the steepest and most accessable plantations the Island has to offer you can imagine that parts of the track will certainly be 'quick' to say the least.....

Not enough hours in the day

Another update

So, erm, I've not managed to get much done on the website front since the start of the series with which I apologise. I was hoping to get a new site up and running this year that even the most technically inept of the organisers could update (Russ...), however having too many fingers in too many pies means I've just not had the chance to sort it out. For now however I have updated the rest of the site with the results and standings to date.

In the meantime check out the forum for news on any meets and rideouts, or to just waste away those slow days at work....

Alpine Bikes Winter Series Round 3

If you've been on another planet over the past few weeks then you will not have known that five of our local riders traveled up to Innerleithen over the Easter weekend to compete in round 3 of the Alpine Bikes Winter series. Sarah Brunswick, considered the Islands only female downhill rider, had previously competed in Round 2 winning it by a country mile. So for Sarah this was the chance to be crowned overall series winner....

Breaking News

Round 5 postponed

After talking with DAFF this week due to the Foot and Mouth outbreak in England, Round 5 of the DH series is postponed. This is due to no access allowed in the plantation and restricted access in the other plantations where we have tracks.
As soon as we get the nod from DAFF we will reschedule the rest of the series. Until then please abide by the DAFF closures in the relevant plantations.

BikeStyle Series - Round 4

Race report

Sunday laid host to the penultimate round of the Bikestyle Downhill series at Brookdale plantation. With only two events after this race the competition was getting hot. A week of solid rain and torrential downpours made the course nearly unrideable with event organizers nearly postponing the event. But with so much preparation and such enthusiasm from the hardcore local riders the event went ahead.....
